A look into ITT Pilates: Part 6

My original goal was to take the ITT Pilates Training through the Reformer series to add Mat and Reformer exercises to my wellness practice. But, during the required observation hours, I could see why Cadillac exercises would augment my wellness practice and allow me to perhaps Apprentice at another studio. And, Cadillac exercises are so much fun! So I decided to go for the full Comprehensive Training which includes Cadillac exercises, Chair & Barrels exercises and the Assessment and Program Design course.

Pilates Master and ITT Pilates Instructor Fran Sholly was delightful and very expressive! While we took turns demonstrating her descriptive verbal directives, she meticulously taught us how to look for and address our individual imbalances with her various tactile cues.

The class size was small, so Fran was able to use two different students to demonstrate each exercise and you could feel the correct action and then cue that for each other. At this point of the training, whether demonstrating or instructing, your ability to verbally and tactilely cue has significantly improved.

Many Level 1 exercises were challenging, like Bend and Stretch, where it required 3 joints to flex simultaneously. Also, Cat was a flexion exercise beyond what I was used to. However, we all seemed to enjoy Side Stretch and Mermaid. We can’t wait to see Jean perform the Bonanza Mermaid during Level 2!
